Fuzen'ro Forest is a large forest located in the western-most part of Fragaria. It is the home of many Jakkai as well as the birth-place of Rhea Snaketail and Ramirez Bloodeyes. The forest is named after Fuzen'ro the Bat.

Geography[]

The forest itself is mostly made of conifer trees. There is a river running through it, possibly connected to Taske Lake.

Jakkai Village[]

Rhea's unnamed home village is situated in the forest. There are trees there whose leaves turn white in winter instead of falling off: these are used for houses, which are carved inside of the trees, including doors and windows. There are dirt paths between houses. There is a general goods store, run by Lockjaw, and a communal hatchery. Little is seen of the village besides Rhea's house, outside of flashbacks.

There is a graveyard outside the village, where Rhea was buried. After she returned to Medius, she used her grave to bury Sakido, changing the inscription on the gravestone to Sakido's name.

Guardian Statue[]

Somewhere, deep within the forest, are ruins that house a large statue that's dedicated to Fuzen'ro the Bat. According to Rhea, it was made by her people's ancestors to show that the guardian protected the village and the forest.

Culture[]

Like other Jakkai villages, the one in Fuzen'ro Forest is secluded. Rhea describes it as a "podunk village"[1], and many other characters speak of it as a backwater place in the countryside.

The villagers hold several traditions and superstitions. They revere Fuzen'ro the Bat, Wind Guardian, as protector of their village, notably through a celebration day that includes a ceremonial dance and paying respect to an ancient statue. They're known to believe in curses, as they've boarded off Rhea's house after she was murdered and left her possessions intact.

Due to tradition, the village is closed off to Humans, even though Jakkai are allowed into the nearby Human village of Farun for the Winter Solstice festival. Rhea states she's never seen any Human/Jakkai Mixlings in her village, as she describes its inhabitants as "a buncha prudes".[2] As the village is isolated and situated in a cold climate, no Khamega ever come there either.

Trivia[]

  • The graveyard within Fuzen'ro Forest is the first location ever seen in Slightly Damned.
