Dragons

Fire, Earth and Water Dragons as described by Cliff.

Dragons are a species of creature found on Medius. First referenced in a story book and in passing by Cliff,[1][2] Dragons are apparently most commonly found in the Dragon Island Archipelago.

So far, a baby Earth Dragon was seen in St. Curtis and was even freed by Sammy. Rynn the Flame Dragon, one of the Twelve Guardians of Medius, assumes the form of a dragon.

Varieties[]

WindDragon

An extinct Wind Dragon.

Dragons are magically empowered creatures, one of the few animal species on Medius that can use magic.[3] They are known to be big and powerful, but can be tamed. There are four types of Dragons, one for each of the natural elements:[1][3]

  • Earth Dragons are quadrupedal, with yellow bodies and brown spikes on their backs reminiscent of a hedgehog's. They have strong, darker-colored jaws and sport yellow horns on their noses.
  • Flame Dragons are bipedal, with red bodies and yellow bellies. They have long ears, horns and triangle-shaped spikes on the tip of their tails.
  • Water Dragons have blue bodies with fin-like ears and tails. They have dark blue spikes on their backs and flipper-like legs, giving them some resemblance to marine dinosaurs.
  • Wind Dragons have serpentine green bodies, with two back legs and two pairs of feathered wings. They have tufts of darker feathers on their heads.

An extinct species of Giant Fire Dragons has been mentioned to have existed in Fragaria in the past.[4]

Traits[]

Earth Dragon[]

Earth Dragons are generally docile compared to the other dragons: they are used in the Dragon Islands Archipelago for farming, as they can destroy mountains and change the course of rivers with their Earth Magic. To that end, they are trained to be obedient to their owners by tethering them while they are young, so they believe they can't break free.[5]

Wind Dragon[]

Wind Dragons are believed to be extinct, and only subsist in legends.[3] All that is left of them are Wyverns, small flying reptiles that can use Wind Magic, although not as powerfully.

Trivia[]

  • Earth Dragons likely share similarities to elephants, who are often trained to perform tasks set by humans; their method of restriction is based on stories regarding "Baby Elephant Syndrome".
